While watching a show on Discovery, a thought struck my mind. Are we getting too dependent on Artificial Intelligence for our lives. Well,it certainly seems so to me.
For example, humans have been becoming pretty much dependant on RFID devices for verification in smart 'future' homes. Anything that goes inside the house needs a RFID device. And if you don't have one, you're done. So if you're going to a friend's party and you forgot the invitation, you're done. And ditto for emergency situations. Plus you always have to wear something like a strap to feed the computer data about your identity. And mails which don't have RFID tags won't get delivered(just like some homes are designed to have - RFID Maiboxes which only open on detecting solicited RFID signals). Plus if the server develops some problem, you're screwed bigtime. Now call the computer engineer to get the lights switched on. And the environment issues relating such systems are already there.
But on the oher hand, its just wonderful. Just imagine you don't need to switch on lights, or program things, like the alarm. That does take some amount of our time everyday. And if something needs to be activated in some other room, or in some other part of the house, it can be done just by speaking up to the computer. Plus you get information on the go, as such systems are connected to high speed internet.
What i understand is that there's a need for such systes, but in a regulated way. Becoming too much dependent on them might just make situations difficult for us at some point of time in the future.
What do you think about it ??
