Online Desktops - A review

I've been hearing people using pirated windows(and even some some top notch officials of the Indian Railways using it). The reason was only one'- very high licensing fees. Even after thar, the licensing fees made people resist legal stuff.

Looking at this problem , companies have started to make Windows similar desktops, but the biggest part, you dont have to install them. You just need any operating system(whether open source or legalised stuff) and a browser(preferably firefox, as most of the sites who develop such applications are using Firefox as their base for operating), and a quite fast Internet connectin(atleast actual 256kbps)for fine working of the application.

Basically, they do create applications which run from the web, use flash as a medium of display if animation, and work just like real desktops. This is wonderful for people who can afford only open source OS's and need nice multi-user operations for privacy.

To start with, i'll review three such online desktops which are popular nowadays. These are Ajax Windows(www.ajaxwindows.com), Nivio(www.nivio.com), Desktop On Demand(www.desktopondemand.com) and My Lgd(www.mylgd.com).

Right now, i'll be reviewing only My Lgd , as i have not been alloted an account with the others.

When i opened the My Lgd website, it akked me for an ID and an Password. I just typed some crap there and click icked on login tab. This then routed to a page where i was given an option to log in as a guest, which i wanted. I then entered and saw a moth like thing(which was representing processing). I then went to; check out the features in the desktop. Like any windows desktop, it has a music player witha plylist,; a calculator, a graphics viewer(which takes hell of time and emory to open and opens images with bad quality...........or my slo;w net does everything wrong). It also has a calculator , a notepad for typing all things, folders(for storing your personal files), a file browser, an few small games, a software manager, an email client,a special and a RSS blog reader.

Well, all i can say is that this is a nice looking site, works well, needs no hefty hardware but just a quick net connection .

If you need a good and cheap alternative to Windows with a pinch of Open cource and dont want to do any changes to your present computer, then juse this.

Any comments or experiences welcomed.
