Movie Review - Karthik Calling Karthik

Yesterday,i checked out Karthik Calling Karthik, a movie by Farhan Akhtar. Having watched all his movies, i decided to check out the newest one.

Karthik Calling Karthik is about an introvert guy,who is subjected to harsh behaviour by his colleges and an abusive boss at the workplace, and a unfair landlord. He has no friends,no social circle, nothing. He likes a girl, who gets committed to a guy in the office. He often dreams of his childhood when accidentially his brother(who happens to be a bully) falls in the well and dies.

So one day(the night before his birthday),when he gets sick of everything(that includes getting fired from the job for telling the boss he forgot to brief on a few files) and intends to commit suicide by consuming a whole bottle of sleeping pills, he gets a call from someone who happens to be him. The other guy on the phone knows everything that he's got in his mind - every incident, literally everything he knows. The next morning he visits the landline service operator and finds out that noone had called him up.The next night he again gets call from 'himself' and surprisingly, this other 'Karthik' helps him out to get a life. He instills confidence within him, gets his job back. Then he gets the girl he alwats wanted since a long long time(the very one who was committed at the beginning,he reveals the reality of her boyfriend).

But there's a twist. The guy on the phone had asked him to keep the details of these calls a secret, which he doesn't,which makes everyone think he's mentally sick. Later that evening,'Karthik' calls up 'karthik' and tells he's screwed. The next morning,he finds that everyone's against him. The boss was mad at him, insults and throws him away, his girl's mad at him for abusing her. His bank account's balance goes zero as all his funds had been transfered via phone banking(which meant that authentication had been done).

He gets sick of everything. He shifts to some unknown city, settles there, and doesn't get a phone connection. He starts working for some small cargo associate. After three months, he gets a new phone connection on the request of his new boss, and the old things starts. By this time,he had mailed his girl(who had been on the look for him for months now) about his whereabouts, and his state. The counsellor gets in contact with the girl, tells her that he's got 'Schizophrenia' - a rare disease where a person sees inexistant things due to malfunctioning of the subconscious mind. By this time, the guy gets literally sick of his life, and somehow is able to attempt suicide. The girl reaches there in time, and saves him. At the end of the movie, they're happy together, and he's under medical supervision - End of the story.

Although its not a 'terrific' movie, its still a decent one. I like Farhan Akhtar for his positive enegrgies, and i find that this movie doesn't disappoint either. Its good, not as good as Lakshya or Dil Chahta Hai. I'd say that you can watch the movie a couple of times.
I'd rate it 2.5 of 5.

What do you think?? Do you think the same?? Feel free to pour in your comments
