Its Official - Sony Ericsson is now Sony

I just received a mail from Sony announcing the takeover of Austrian JV Sony-Ericsson by Sony Inc. The company will now be called Sony Communications limited.

Here's the mail

I’m delighted to tell you that Sony Ericsson has become Sony Mobile Communications, and is now fully owned by Sony and integrated under the Sony Brand. Going forward, Xperia™ smartphones will form an integral part of Sony’s exciting range of products and services. This won’t affect your service or warranty*, but you will now receive the added benefit of having the world of Sony at your fingertips, creating the very best entertainment experiences on a smartphone.

The smartphone just got smarter

This change marks an exciting new chapter for the future of smartphones. With easy connectivity between your smartphone and other devices you’ll now be able to enjoy content on whichever screen suits you best whether it’s a TV, smartphone, laptop or tablet.

Yours sincerely,
Steve Walker,
Chief Marketing Officer
Sony Mobile Communications

And with this move, Sony goes aggressive into mobile hardware industry. I will be missing the ericsson logo on the top, and the well-designed familiar green logo.
