Airtel becomes the Fifth Largest Operator in the world, buys out Zain Telecom

Indian cellular giant Bharti Airtel announced on Monday that it finalised a deal to take over Africa's second largest telecom company "Zain Telecom". The said deal makes Bharti Airtel the fifth largest operator in the world after the likes of China Mobile and Vodafone. The deal happens to be the second biggest deal lagging only behing TATA Steel's European Chorus steel's buyout.

And for the record, Zain Telecom (Formerly known as Celtel) was one of the founding investors of the Bharti Airtel when it was founded in 1992. It held 15% stake in it then which it later sold off.

Thats one good reason for me to celebrate, being Airtel's six year old user.
